After two early conference games in the first week of December, Big Ten Conference play returns with No. 24 Nebraska at Maryland, and Northwestern at No. 8 Michigan State.
The Nebraska at Maryland game will be a tight match, while Michigan State has the opportunity to run away with it against Northwestern. However, with the talent in the Big Ten this year, it’s too hard to predict any game this season.
You can preview the games below.
Game of the Night
-No. 24 Nebraska Cornhuskers at Maryland Terrapins
- Time/TV: 6:30PM ET BTN
- Spread: PK
Coming into this game, the most concerning aspect for the Huskers is the questionable designation Isaiah Roby received on Monday in a Tim Miles press conference. If his groin injury forces him to miss tonight’s game, Bruno Fernando will have the ability to tee away at the rim.
Already with six double-doubles on the season and leading the Big Ten with 2.5 blocks per game, Fernando will have a size mismatch that no other center on the Huskers can match. With Roby’s potential absence, the Terrapins will look to attack the rim early, and often, while the Huskers might have to rely on their perimeter shooting.
- Pick Against the Spread: Maryland
The Rest
-Northwestern Wildcats at No. 8 Michigan State Spartans
- Time/TV: 8:30PM ET BTN
- Spread: Michigan State (-12.5)
A match-up between the top of the Big Ten Standings (MSU 2-0) and the bottom (NW 0-2). Michigan State handled their early conferences foes fairly easily, while Northwestern could be sitting right up there with the Spartans.
Northwestern has a pair of two point losses, on the road against Indiana, and home against Michigan, where they controlled the majority of the second half. The Wildcats, outside of Derek Pardons, are a young team, but can catch fire whenever, so Tom Izzo and the player have to be ready.
- Pick Against the Spread: Michigan State
