Indiana and Maryland Split Week 10 Big Ten Honors

See who won the Big Ten’s weekly awards.

The Big Ten released its weekly award winners for week 10 of the regular season on Monday and two teams ended up splitting the awards. Maryland’s Bruno Fernando was named Big Ten Player of the Week and Indiana’s Romeo Langford was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week. In a big week for the league, these two stood out.

Entering this season, Fernando was viewed as one of the league’s biggest wildcards. He had shown signs of being an elite player, but didn’t quite have the consistency to get the hype of several other star players around the league. During the course of last season, he averaged 10.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

And last week, Fernando came up huge for the Terps. He averaged 17.5 points and 12 rebounds per game in wins over Minnesota and Indiana. This is the first time that he’s received this award during his career. The last Terp to earn this honor was Melo Trimble in February of 2017. Obviously, big news for the Maryland program.

Entering this season,

Langford also had an impressive performance this week. He scored 28 points and had three assists and two rebounds against Maryland. Throughout this season, Langford has put up massive numbers and he’s certainly going to be in the picture for Big Ten Freshman of the Year at season’s end. This is already the fourth time he has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week this season.

All told, it was a big week for the Big Ten and these two teams. It will be exciting to watch Fernando and Langford as the season continues to unfold.
