Earlier this month, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights got some good news as the program got another quality addition to its 2018 recruiting class in the way of guard Caleb McConnell. He joins an intriguing group of incoming prospects for head coach Steve Pikiell.

McConnell comes out of Jacksonville, Florida and is rated as a three-star by 247Sports. The site also lists him as a point guard and the No. 320th ranked prospect in the class. Other schools who pursued McConnell included Akron, Kent State, UMass, and West Virginia.

While there’s no debating that McConnell is far from an elite prospect, according to the recruiting services, he does have some potential and joins a decent situation. Rutgers is losing Corey Sanders, but returns much of its roster from last season. It also returns Geo Baker, who made quite a splash in his freshman campaign.

With his addition, 247Sports now has Rutgers’ class ranked ninth in the Big Ten for the 2018 recruiting cycle and 40th nationally. The class not only features four commitments, but also two players in the top 150. That’s a good group to build with moving forward.

No one can be sure how McConnell will progress once he arrives at Rutgers, but Scarlet Knight fans should be excited about adding another talented piece to the roster.
