The No. 14 seeded Rutgers Scarlet Knights are in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. No way anyone saw that coming besides the players and coaches. What’s even crazier, a 14 seed has never made it to the quarterfinals before in the Big Ten tournament.
Unfortunately for the Scarlet Knights, they have to face No. 3 Purdue now, a team that’s well experienced in a tournament like this, having four seniors in their starting lineup. The lone underclass men in the starting lineup, just happens to be a All-Big Ten First team guard in Carson Edwards. Rutgers will have their hands filled with Boilermakers tonight, but by no means does that mean Rutgers can’t win.
No. 14 Rutgers Scarlet Knights at No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers
- Time/TV: 8:55PM ET BTN
Rutgers and Purdue have faced off twice this season, with one game not close at all, while the other almost had an upset win for Rutgers. The first game was in Purdue, where the Boilermakers beat Rutgers by 30 points all the way back in early January.
The second game went a little differently, with Purdue winning by just two in Rutgers, 78-76. Rutgers led for a lot of that game, but bench depth and overall talent led the Boilermakers to victory.
However, now Rutgers has all the momentum, winning two straight, including last night’s win when they overcame a sixteen point deficit in the first half on the shoulders of Corey Sanders. If Sanders plays like he has this tournament, and Purdue plays subpar, who knows, maybe the Scarlet Knights pull off another upset!
- Pick: Purdue Boilermakers
