NIT Big Ten Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers visit the Mississippi State Bulldogs

Both Nebraska and Mississippi State look to bounce back after leaving Selection Sunday on a sad note

NCAA Basketball: Penn State at Nebraska Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

The Nebraska Cornhuskers went to bed Selection Sunday night not only upset that their NCAA tournament wishes weren’t fulfilled, but also angry that they were placed as low as a No. 5 seed in the NIT tournament. For a team that reached 22 wins overall and 13 wins in their conference schedule, a five seed in the NIT stings.

The Huskers actually played Mississippi State earlier this year in a charity exhibition game for Hurricane Harvey, at Mississippi State. Nebraska led by as much as 20 at one point behind James Palmer Jr. 17 points, but only ended up winning by nine.

You can preview the game tonight below. The spread is based off of ESPN.

No. 5 Nebraska Cornhuskers at No. 4 Mississippi State Bulldogs

  • Time/TV: 9:00PM ET ESPN2
  • ESPN Spread: Mississippi State (-4.0)

The Huskers will be looking to represent one of two Big Ten teams in the NIT, with the other being Penn State. Question is, whether the Huskers will play with intensity and anger, or disappointment and sadness.

The Huskers last game against Michigan didn’t go as planned, losing by 19 points and leading only for a small amount of time. For a game that meant so much for Nebraska, to lose that badly not only crushed their chances of making the NCAA tournament, but probably took away a lot of the confidence they had throughout the season.

The outcome of this game will be decided by which Nebraska team shows up, the Nebraska team that almost beat Kansas at home, or the Nebraska team that only had five assists against Michigan in their latest game.
