Sunday’s slate is a loaded one for the Big Ten. Not only does the day feature five games, but nearly all of them have Big Ten Tournament and/or NCAA Tournament implications and one will decide the Big Ten title.
Let’s take a look at the matchups.
Game of the Day
-Michigan State Spartans at Wisconsin Badgers
- Time/TV: 1:00PM ET (CBS)
- KenPom Spread: Michigan State (-8)
While this game may not look like a marquee matchup on paper, there are a lot of things to like about this one. Not only will it determine the Big Ten regular season title, but it will also impact the top seeding for the Big Ten Tournament and will be the first game for the Spartans since Miles Bridges was me tioned in the FBI probe.
On paper, there’s no debating Michigan State is the better team. The question is whether the Spartans can play up to their ability. Wisconsin is a tough road environment and the Badgers upset Purdue just a week or so ago. Buckle up.
- Pick Against the Spread: Wisconsin
The Rest:
-Illinois Fighting Illini at Rutgers Scarlet Knights
- Time/TV: 3:00PM ET (BTN)
- KenPom Spread: Rutgers (-1)
This is probably the Big Ten game with the least amount of hype heading into Sunday. However, it will help to determine seeding for the Big Ten Tournament and is a great opportunity for both sides to build momentum heading into next week.
- Pick Against the Spread: Illinois
-Minnesota Golden Gophers at Purdue Boilermakers
- Time/TV:4:00PM ET (FS1)
- KenPom Spread: Purdue (-20)
It’s senior day for Purdue and the Boilermakers have a chance to add another win to the resume heading into the Big Ten Tournament. Purdue will get that opportunity against a struggling Minnesota team looking for answers. Don’t expect this one to be close.
- Pick Against the Spread: Purdue
-Penn State Nittany Lions at Nebraska Cornhuskers
- Time/TV: 5:15PM ET (BTN)
- KenPom Spread: Nebraska (-1)
Last Sunday, this figured to be one of the best games anywhere in the nation this week. However, with a Nebraska loss to Illinois and two Penn State losses, there isn’t quite as much hupe about this game anymore. Neither team looks all that close to the NCAA Tournament right now and, as such, the stake aren’t quite as high as they looked last week.
Nonetheless, the outcome of Sunday’s matchup will determine Big Ten Tournament seeding for both sides. It’s also hard to imagine either making it as an at-large with a loss on Sunday.
The battle to watch is inside. Mike Watkins is out for Penn State and how his backups do on sunday will be key.
- Pick Against the Spread: Nebraska
-Northwestern Wildcats at Iowa Hawkeyes
- Time/TV: 7:30PM ET (BTN)
- KenPom Spread: Iowa (-3)
This is another game that, frankly, doesn’t have very high stakes. Neither Iowa or Northwestern has any at-large shot at the NCAA Tournament and both sides are struggling. Expect a sloppy one.
- Pick Against the Spread: Iowa
