The Big Ten released its weekly award winners for week seven of the regular season on Monday and two teams ended up splitting the awards. Ohio State’s Kaleb Wesson was named Big Ten Player of the Week and Daniel Oturu was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week. In a slow week, these two stood out.

Entering this season, Buckeye fans had high hopes for Wesson. He had shown some flashes as a freshman and fans were hoping he would turn the corner. During last season, he averaged 10.2 points and 4.9 rebounds a game. He also had a few standout performances, including 18 points against Iowa.

This week, Wesson averaged 23 points and 9.5 rebounds in wins over UCLA and Youngstown State. He was particularly impressive against the Penguins, finishing with 31 points in 23 minutes on the floor.

Oturu also had a standout performance this week. He had 20 points and 11 rebounds in the team’s win over North Carolina A&T. This was Oturu’s third straight double-double. It was also his fourth straight game scoring at least 10 points.

All told, it was a big week for the Big Ten and these two teams. It will be exciting to watch Wesson and Oturu as the season continues to unfold.
