Cordell Pemsl To Miss Remainder Of Season For Hawkeyes

On Tuesday, the Iowa Hawkeyes announced that junior forward Cordell Pemsl underwent season-ending surgery relating to a previous knee injury. It was disappointing news for Hawkeye fans who were hoping to see him in more action this season.

During last season, Pemsl played a pivotal role for the team. He averaged 16.4 minutes per game and scored double digits on eight difference occasions. He was particularly impressive early on, scoring 15 points in the team’s second game.

This year, however, didn’t go quite as well for Pemsl. He only saw action in two different games and only played a total of 30 minutes all year. One can debate whether this was solely injury related or not, but it should lessen the impact of his injury for the Hawkeyes going forward.

Pemsl said the following in a university release:

“I tried to give playing this season another shot in the Iowa State game, but after a week of rest and recovery, the chronic irritation caused by the hardware has remained resulting in my inability to play in Saturday’s game versus UNI. After further discussions with the medical staff, we determined that the best course of action is to correct the problem at this time.”

Either way, it’s disappointing news for Hawkeye fans. Everyone certainly wishes him the best moving forward and for a quick recovery.
