The Big Ten released its weekly award winners for week three of the regular season and three teams ended up splitting the awards. Michigan State’s Cassius Winston and Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ were named Co-Big Ten Players of the Week and Minnesota’s Gabe Kalscheur was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Winston was a key factor in the team’s wins over UCLA and Texas and averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds in the two wins. This is the first time that he’s earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors in his career.

Similarly, Happ entered this season with plenty of hype and was expected by many to contend for All-Big Ten honors. During this week, he averaged 17.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game and led Wisconsin to two key victories. This is the fifth time that he has been named Big Ten Player of the Week in his career.

Finally, the Freshman of the Week was Kalscheur, who averaged 14 points as Minnesota scored three wins in the Vancouver Showcase. This is the first time he has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week and is the first Gopher to win the award since Isaiah Washington last year.
