Former Scarlet Knight guard Corey Sanders signed with the Houston Rockets G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers this week.

Sanders, a two-time All Big Ten selection, played three seasons for the Scarlet Knights and averaged 14.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He finished in the top 10 in Rutgers history in assists and steals. His 1,370 points is good for 17th all-time.

In a media release from the Rutgers athletic department, Sanders described the impact Rutgers had in developing him for this opportunity.

“Rutgers helped me a lot to prepare for this,” Sanders explained. “Both mentally and physically. Coach David VanDyke and his staff got me prepared in the weight room. The coaching staff really prepared me as well. When Coach Pikiell came here, he challenged me and helped me become mentally prepared. They taught me how to preserve through adversity and learn the bigger message in life. I learned a lot from being here the last three years. I had a great career here. Rutgers brought me and treated me like one of their own.”

Training camp begins with the Vipers in late October. The 50-game schedule starts on November 3rd with a matchup against the Memphis Hustle.
