In a press release, the Big Ten announced that it will be entering into a partnership with the Big Ten Network and Sirius Radio to create a new channel on the satellite radio network. The channel will debut on October 22nd.
The Big Ten Network has evolved into one of the biggest fiscal strengths for the Big Ten and it looks like Jim Delany and his crew will be looking to extend that success on the radio airwaves. Much of the broadcast will be simulcasts of Big Ten Network programming.
Most of the hosts will be quite familiar for fans who routinely follow the Big Ten Network. They include Jon Crispin, AJ Hawk, Anthony Herron, and Brad Hopkins among others. Broadcasts will also include various coaching press conferences and classic game rebroadcasts.
While many have questioned the future of the Big Ten Network in an era where many are cutting the cord for traditional cable packages. However, this seems like a pretty natural move for a network like the Big Ten. Perhaps this is part of a long-term plan to diversify the Big Ten Network and its broadcasting rights.
Either way, BTPowerhouse will keep you posted as things move forward.
