Purdue added their first commit for 2019 and it’s a name that Boilermakers fans should be familiar with.
Earlier today Isaiah Thompson, a three-star point guard from Zionsville, announced that he was committing to the Boilermakers. The name should ring a bell for Purdue fans as Thompson is the younger brother of current starting point guard P.J. Thompson.
The 6’0” guard chose the Boilermakers over a number of other programs that had shown interest, including Butler, Xavier and Iowa. 247Sports ranks Thompson as a three-star recruit and has him as the seventh best prospect in the state of Indiana for the 2019 class.
“Coach Painter told me he loves how I’m a point guard who can push the ball up the floor and make plays for either myself or teammates,” Thompson said. Thompson also added that his familiarity with the program should be a benefit.
“I’ll come in there knowing what Coach Painter wants, that he likes guys who play hard, defend and just be good teammates.”
Thompson has spent plenty of time around the program due to his older brother, so the news that he’s committing to Purdue shouldn’t be much of a surprise to anyone who has followed the program recently. The guard is currently averaging 25.8 points, 3.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game for Zionsville and is shooting an impressive 46% from beyond the arc.
“Ever since I was a kid I wanted to play in the Big Ten. Purdue feels like the best fit for me,” Thompson said. “If this is the place I wanted to be, why not now?”
