On Monday night, Purdue fans got exciting news as 2018 prospect Eric Hunter opted to commit to the Purdue Boilermakers. It was the second commitment for the Boilermakers over the last week and keeps things rolling for Matt Painter.

Hunter comes out of Indianapolis, Indiana and is rated as the No. 5 player in the state and a four-star prospect by 247Sports. He is listed at 6-foot-3 and 165 pounds and is ranked No. 136 nationally in the 2018 recruiting class.
Along with attention from Purdue, Hunter also held offers from Butler, Creighton, Minnesota, Ohio State, and Xavier among others. He was a major prospect and one of the bigger recruits in the midwest for the 2018 cycle.
Hunter will join a Purdue recruiting class that is now ranked 22nd nationally and as the sixth best in the Big Ten by 247Sports. Those rankings will certainly change with plenty of time remaining before the classes are solidified, but that’s a great start for Painter and his staff. There’s little debating this could end up being a nationally elite class.
One interesting note is that, despite already having three commitments, Purdue still has two scholarships open in its 2018 recruiting class. Whether Painter hopes to use both scholarships on 2018 prospects remains to be seen, but this could be a very special class for Purdue. Expect the program to stay active.
There’s no telling what Hunter will accomplish in the Big Ten, but this is a significant commitment for the Boilermakers that keeps things heading in the right direction. Painter has proven his worth for Purdue and looks to keep things rolling.
