47 Days to B1G Basketball: Ohio State Adds Two More Commits to 2018 Recruiting Class

The Buckeyes quickly added a second recruit to their 2018 class.

As we mentioned a few days ago, Ohio State finally added their first verbal commit for 2018 with the news that Jaedon LeDee had committed to the program. Of course he wasn’t the first prospect to commit for 2018, but with the coaching change this spring Ohio State has been dealing with a number of decommits and turnover within the program.

Now things seem to look a bit better in Columbus, with the Buckeyes now landing three commits in a single week.

Of the two new commits, the most notable is Luther Muhammad. Muhammad is a four-star shooting guard that is ranked by 247Sports as the 71st best prospect in the 2018 class, as well as the 14th best shooting guard.

Muhammad is an impressive perimeter defender and offensively is likely to play off the ball, showcasing his ability to score. Land-Grant Holy Land had the following to say about the 6’4” guard:

Muhammad’s greatest asset is his ability to score. He’s the best pure scorer of the bunch, and the only one with a truly defined position: he’s a shooting guard, through and through. Capable of beating defenses in a bevy of ways, Muhammad is at his best off of the pass, either as a sharp shooter or slasher, and has one of the best shooting strokes of any recruit in the nation.

Also committing to the Buckeyes this week is Duane Washington, a three-star point guard that is ranked by 247Sports as the 292nd best prospect in the 2018 class and the 55th best point guard.

While Washington isn’t one of the more notable recruits, he’s shown to be a great shooter and should provide Ohio State with some offensive firepower. This past spring in the Nike EYBl Washington hit 48% of his field goals, 45% of his three pointers and 87% of his free throws. With Ohio State attempting to rebuild, having a player that can shoot the ball is definitely a solid addition.

The Buckeyes have made some quick progress for 2018 and now have a nice recruiting class brewing in Columbus. 247Sports now lists the class as the 13th best in the nation and sixth in the Big Ten.
