The Iowa Hawkeyes got good news on Saturday as the program landed a commitment from 2018 prospect CJ Fredrick. With so many scholarships filled by the last few classes, it had been quite some time since Iowa got good news like this.
Fredrick is listed at 6-foot-4 and 175 pounds and comes out of Alexandria, Kentucky. And while he is only rated as a two-star by 247Sports, Fredrick has an impressive offer list and is rated as the No. 4 player out of Kentucky.
Along with his Iowa offer, Fredrick had offers from Indiana, Penn State, and Xavier among others. He had visited schools like Butler and Indiana since the start of the year and appeared to be continuing to trend up as a prospect.
With his commitment, Iowa now has two commitments in its 2018 recruiting class and is one over the scholarship limit for that cycle. However, given the current transfer rates in college basketball, it’s fair to expect some attrition before Fredrick and his class will show up on campus.
Either way, Iowa has scored a nice pickup for its 2018 recruiting class as the program prepares to move into the upcoming season.
