On Friday, Rutgers got some good news as 2018 prospect Ronald Harper opted to commit to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights over numerous other programs. It was exciting news for Steve Pikiell and his staff as the program continues to build momentum.
Harper is listed as 6-foot-6 and 200 pounds and comes out of Ramsey, New Jersey. Along with Rutgers, he had offers from Howard, Miami (OH), Nebraska, and Radford among others. He is currently unrated by 247Sports.
What’s particularly important about this commitment is that it continues Pikiell’s recent success close to home. Harper is the program’s fourth commitment in the last three classes from the northeast, which should be a good sign for the years to come. If Pikiell can start locking down New Jersey and the surrounding states, Rutgers has a chance to build a nice talent base going forward.
With his commitment, Rutgers now has three commitments in its 2018 recruiting class., which is looking more impressive by the day. The class is currently ranked No. 10 nationally by 247Sports and the third best in the Big Ten. It’s currently led by four-star prospect Montez Mathis.
There’s still a lot to do for Pikiell and the Scarlet Knights to find some success, but Harper should continue that move forward in the coming years.
