There’s plenty of excitement surrounding Minnesota basketball entering next season and that is being reflected through ticket sales.

Minnesota announced last week that season ticket holders are renewing their tickets in a record fashion for the upcoming 2017-18 season. The university announced a renewal rate of more than 98 percent which is considered one of the highest retention levels in program history.

"The excitement for this upcoming season is high, and we're so appreciative of our loyal fans who have signed on to be a part of it at the Barn with us by renewing their season tickets," head coach Richard Pitino said in a press release. "We want to build on last year's success and continue elevating our program, and we can't do it without our fans giving us a great home court advantage."

The Golden Gophers are coming off an incredible rebound season in 2016-17 that saw the program reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013. It was also the first time under Pitino the team reached the Big Dance.

Minnesota will look to build off last year’s program record 23 regular season wins this year with nearly the entire nucleus returning. The Golden Gophers return six of their seven leading scorers from last year, including four guys who averaged double-digit points per game — Nate Mason (15.2), Amir Coffey (12.2), Jordan Murphy (11.3) and Dupree McBrayer (11.1).

With so many returning stars, many believe the Golden Gophers are expected to contend for a Big Ten title in 2017-18. That includes us at BT Powerhouse. We have Minnesota as No. 2 in our Way Too Early 2017-’18 Big Ten Power Rankings 2.0.

While the entire schedule has yet to be released we do know some of the upcoming opponents the Golden Gophers will take on. So far we know the Golden Gophers will travel to Providence on Nov. 13 as part of the Big Ten-Big East Challenge, battle UMass and Alabama on Nov. 24 and 25 as part of the Barclays Classic in New York City, and will host the Miami Hurricanes on Nov. 29 as part of the Big Ten-ACC Challenge.

So season ticket holders at least know they’ll have one big-time non-conference opponent coming to The Barn in 2017-18 when the Hurricanes come to town.

According to a press release from the program, the entire non-conference and conference schedule will be released later this summer. The on-going update of Minnesota’s 2017-18 schedule can be seen on BT Powerhouse here.

Those interested in season tickets for the Golden Gophers should contact the Gopher Ticket Office here or dial 1-800-U-GOPHER for details. Minnesota will also soon be releasing a “Pick-Your-Packs” package where fans will be able to select the games they’d like to attend.
