Tom Izzo and his staff got some exciting news on Tuesday night as the Michigan State Spartans learned that the program had added a commitment from 2018 prospect Gabe Brown. It’s a nice in-state pickup for Izzo and the Spartans.

Brown comes out of Belleville, Michigan and is rated as a three-star prospect in the 2018 recruiting class by 247Sports. He’s also rated as the No. 181 player in the class and the No. 7 player in the state of Michigan.
With his decision, Brown becomes the third member of a talented 2018 recruiting class for the Spartans. The class is currently ranked No. 5 nationally and No. 1 in the Big Ten by 247Sports. Admittedly, it’s still early, but it’s hard to be disappointed by the haul of players Izzo is adding in the 2018 class.
While Brown still has some room to grow as a player, he does project rather nicely to the next level. He’s athletic, can finish at the hoop, and is solid on the defense end. Brown will have to take another step as a shooter and in his shot creation to become an impact player at the next level, but he’s well on his way.
Along with Michigan State, Brown also had offers from DePaul, Detroit, and Oakland among others. He still hadn’t received a ton of nationally elite offers, but he was progressing “up the ladder” on the recruiting trail.
There’s still quite some time before Brown will arrive on campus, but Spartan fans have to be excited about what Izzo is doing inside the state of Michigan. Brown is just the latest in an impressive recent run for the Spartans.
