Michigan State listed as betting favorite for 2018 National Championship

Bovada and other betting services have the Spartans cutting down the nets in 2018.

If you’re a Spartan fan who likes to gamble, then now is the perfect time to put down some money on Michigan State for next season.

Actually, if you had the ability to go back in time, then the real perfect time to place money on the Spartans would have been before freshman phenom Miles Bridges decided to come back for his sophomore season but I don’t think any of our readers possess the ability to do such.

Once rumors came out that Bridges would be returning next season Michigan State became the team oddsmakers fell in love with. Now the Spartans are one of the betting favorites going into next season for many of the premier betting books, and at the top of the list for Bovada.

I mentioned last week in my early look at the 2017-18 Spartans that Bovada has Michigan State has the favorites to win the National Championship heading into next season at 8-to-1 odds. That was a jump of 20-to-1 on April 5 to 8-to-1 on April 17 with the news of Bridges return.

Like I said, if you could have placed the bet back on April 5, you’d be better off. But Bovada isn’t the only one out in Las Vegas who thinks Michigan State has a good chance at cutting down the nets in San Antonio next April.

Go across the board and you’ll see the Spartans at the top or near the top of the list of betting odds for next year. Odds Shark has many of the top betting books’ future odds with Michigan State ranging from +1500 (15-to-1) to +3000 (30-to-1) to win the 2018 National Championship. Vegas Insider also has its college basketball future odds out, which lists Michigan State at 20-to-1 odds.

These odds found on Odds Shark and Vegas Insider may not have been updated since the news of Bridges’ return. So those all may very well be closer to what Bovada has the Spartans at. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case and if it’s not then you should put your money down before it’s too late.

There are a number of other teams that will also be hot bets for next year as well. Teams such as Kentucky, Duke and Kansas all are right behind Michigan State with similar odds to win it all but none are lower than +1000 or 10-to-1 odds. One website considered Michigan State the safest futures bet despite it having the lowest pay out.

“I’m not WILD about the +800 number – I’d like better value, but I do think this is the safest, least question marks, wager in the future market,” Chris Scheeren wrote for GamblingSites.org.

While Michigan State is the favorites next year there are still some other Big Ten teams with some solid odds as well. Bovada has both Michigan and Indiana at +2500 (25-to-1), Purdue at +5000 (50-to-1), and Wisconsin and Minnesota at +7500 (75-to-1). Click here to see Bovada’s full list of future odds.

The hype for Michigan State next season is in full force now and the expectations will only grow as we move closer to the fall. Being considered the favorites in Vegas entering next season will only heighten those expectations even more and only time will tell if the Spartans conquer those goals.

If you’re confident they will then now is the time to put your money where your mouth is and bet on the Spartans. It looks like a lot have already done so and more will be joining.
