While trying to predict what will happen in this year’s March Madness remains a pointless exercise, new odds were released by Bovada attempting to project the key national championship contenders for this season. Vegas always has an interesting perspective and this list is no different.
The Big Ten had a number of teams that performed well, but the conference’s odds were relatively underwhelming when compared to other leagues. In particular, lacking a team among the top 14 in odds is concerning.
Here’s a full look at the Big Ten teams listed below.
Big Ten Teams In 2/13 National Title Odds:
- 33/1 - Maryland, Wisconsin
- 40/1 - Purdue
- 75/1 - Michigan State
- 100/1 - Indiana
- 200/1 - Michigan, Northwestern
- 500/1 - Ohio State
- Off The Board: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State, Rutgers
As mentioned, the most notable development in these new odds is the underwhelming performance of the conference. Not only did the league lack anyone among the top 14, but it only had three above 50/1 odds.
The two most interesting landing spots for the Big Ten were Maryland and Michigan State. While both of these teams are capable of making a run, it seemed surprising to see the Terps listed above a team like Purdue and to see the Spartans separated so significantly from teams like the Wolverines and Wildcats.
It should be a fun next few months and if these odds are any indication, it looks like a tight and unpredictable race across the Big Ten this season.
