Melo Trimble Makes 2017 Bob Cousy Award Finalist List

The Big Ten was fortunate enough to have one player listed as a finalist for the 2017 Bob Cousy Award.

Although the college basketball season is still cruising through conference play, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced its finalists for the 2017 Bob Cousy Award. This award is given to the nation’s best point guard.

The Big Ten found itself well represented on the list with one player making the group of 10 players under consideration. Obviously, that some of the talent that Big Ten fans have enjoyed this season.

Here’s a full look at the list below.

  • Monte Morris (Iowa St.)
  • Frank Mason (Kansas)
  • De'Aaron Fox (Kentucky)
  • Melo Trimble (Maryland)
  • Joel Berry II (North Carolina)
  • Dennis Smith (North Carolina State)
  • Lonzo Ball (UCLA)
  • Jalen Brunson (Villanova)
  • Markelle Fultz (Washington)

Obviously, there’s no debating that this list includes some of the nation’s best players, including Kansas’ Frank Mason, who many figure will be a favorite for this honor. Additionally, many of these players come from some of the nation’s best teams, including Gonzaga, Kentucky, UCLA, and Villanova.

Trimble has put up some impressive numbers this season. He is currently averaging 17.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game and has been crucial in many of Maryland’s narrow victories this season.

Although few are expecting Trimble to win the award, making this list alone is notable. He has done some impressive things during his career in College Park and making this list speaks to that career performance.
