12/15 Big Ten Morning Power Bar: 2018 Big Man Puts Two Big Ten Teams In His Top Four

Plus new offers and an update from a previous article

NCAA Basketball: Southern at Illinois Mike Granse-USA TODAY Sports

Every week, BTPowerhouse’s Big Ten Morning Power Bar details what’s going on across the league on the recruiting trail.

Finals are wrapping up for schools across the Big Ten, so that means a return to big time college hoops starting this weekend. Things stayed interesting on the recruiting trail as we’ll review a new offer for a 2020 point guard, a prized 2018 big man with Big Ten considerations and a team that needs help at power forward.

-Flo Thamba Is Down To Four Schools, Multiple Big Ten Schools Remain

While many Big Ten schools are filled up for their respective 2018 recruiting classes, some are still working to complete the final pieces.

This is evident in Lincoln and Champaign, where both schools got good news this week in their pursuit of Flo Thamba.

The 6-foot-10 big from the Democratic Republic of Congo narrowed his scholarship choices down to four: Baylor, Illinois, Nebraska and Virginia Tech. Take a look at his announcement via his high school team’s Twitter.

Official visits will be next for Thamba. According to an article from Adam Zagoria, Thamba is looking for a mid-January decision. Thamba has already visited Virginia Tech and Nebraska. He will take his visit to Illinois this weekend. Baylor will be coming up at the start of the new year and then a decision will come quickly after that.

Thamba is an athletic big who can run the floor with ease and play defense and rebound. His offensive skills will need some work, but Thamba projects to be a nice defensive prospect from the outset. He would be a welcome addition to any of his final four schools. Check out some of his highlights below, courtesy of Mountain Mission Hoops.

-Purdue Graduate Transfer Target, Evan Boudreaux, Chooses Xavier

This is an update from our December 1st article on the Dartmouth transfer forward Evan Boudreaux.

Boudreaux visited Purdue for the Louisville game and seemed a natural fit for the hole Vincent Edwards will leave after this season, but Boudreaux committed to the Xavier Musketeers on Monday afternoon.

Purdue’s search at the four will continue.

-2020 Point Guard Receives Offer From Penn State

According to Maryland Prep Hoops writer, Adam Ayalew, Penn State extended an offer to 2020 point guard Chuck Harris this week.

Obviously still early and the 6-foot-1 point guard will get plenty of exposure as he runs the show for the no. 1 ranked school in Maryland, according to MaxPreps.

-2019 Power Forward Receives Offer From Minnesota

Woodstock Academy in Connecticut reported last night that the Golden Gophers offered 6-foot-8 2019 forward Tre Mitchell after his practice.

As you can see in his highlights below, Mitchell is an old school four who loves to back people down and use his strength around the rim. He currently holds offers from schools such as Connecticut, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and Seton Hall.

With Mitchell receiving so much interest from Power Five schools already, a concern for Minnesota is that they might be too late for the party. However, with their success developing Jordan Murphy and Reggie Lynch, they must think they can grab Mitchell’s attention. Rivals put out a glowing review of Mitchell in November, so one might expect a top 150 ranking in Mitchell’s future. Keep an eye on this one when he starts his visits.
