The Terps added a third commit for 2018.

Maryland added another highly touted recruit to their loaded 2018 class with the news that Eric Ayala has verbally committed to the program. The 6’5” combo guard is a 4-star prospect and is ranked by 247Sports Composite rankings as the 76th best recruit in the class, as well as the sixth best combo guard in 2018.

Ayala joins a class that includes 5-star power forward Jalen Smith and 4-star small forward Aaron Wiggins. The addition of Ayala boosts the Terps current class to fifth in the nation and second in the Big Ten, behind only Michigan (who benefits in 247Sports rankings as they have five commits compared to Maryland’s three).

Ayala chose Maryland over Oregon and Miami, citing location as part of the reason why he went with the Terps.

"Honestly, I've been away from home for three years," Ayala said. "That was kind of the nail in the coffin, now she [Ayala’s mother] can come watch me play again."

The news for Maryland was a nice boost for Maryland, especially as they just missed out on target Devon Dotson. While Dotson is ranked as a five-star prospect, Ayala is no slouch either. The 6’5” guard will bring plenty of size to the backcourt for Maryland, as well as adding another excellent shooter to the mix for the Terps.
