North Central (Indianapolis) forward Kris Wilkes announced via Twitter on Sunday afternoon that he has narrowed his recruitment down to just five schools. Both the Illinois Fighting Illini and Indiana Hoosiers have an opportunity to keep one of the Class of 2017’s best recruits in Big Ten Country.
Along with the Illini and the Hoosiers, the UCLA Bruins, UConn Huskies, and Xavier Musketeers are still in the mix.

Wilkes, a 6-foot-7-inch forward, is rated as the No.2 player in the state of Indiana and No.15 player overall for the class of 2017 according to 247Sports.
The site has the Hoosiers and UCLA in a dead heat to secure WIlkes’ services. But the lead foe either team is not insurmountable for Illinois, UConn and Xavier to have a realistic shot.
Wilkes, of course, is not the first high profile North Central product that Indiana and Illinois have battled over. Fans of both schools will remember the drama surrounding the Class of 2007’s Eric Gordon. Gordon was initially verbally committed to Illinois before breaking his commitment and playing his lone college season.
Whichever school Mr. Wilkes chooses, let’s hope to not have a replay of 2006.
