Well, the big day is finally here. After months and months of speculation, the nation's top prospect, Josh Jackson will announce his college decision. His decision is anticipated to be between Arizona, Kansas, and Michigan State and will be announced on his Twitter profile later today.
Jackson has received plenty of attention over the last few years and for good reason. His unique combination of size, length, and athleticism give him the potential to be an elite player at the college level. He has the ability to play at multiple positions and has the handling, shot, and physicality to score in several different ways.
He will be major difference maker next season.
But for who?
At this point, it's hard to speculate on where Jackson will actually land. Kansas leads 247Sports'Crystal Ball with 68 percent of the vote, but both Arizona and Michigan State received plenty of votes as well. Jackson has been particularly quiet about his decision, so it's hard to get a grasp on where he will pick.
Of course, if Jackson does head to East Lansing, it would be a major win for Tom Izzo. He would be the final piece in Michigan State's loaded 2016 recruiting class and could very well be the player that pushes the Spartans over the top to a Big Ten title, a Final Four, or a national championship. He's just that good.
A commitment from Jackson would also give Michigan State plenty of different lineup options a swell. Deyonta Davis still has to make his NBA Draft decision, but a projected lineup of Davis-Bridges-Langford-Jackson-Nairn looks absolutely loaded and that doesn't even include other players like Eron Harris, Matt McQuaid, or Nick Ward, who all have the potential to be nice boosts off the bench.
Unless something massive grows wrong between now and November, the Spartans are going to be a good team, but Jackson is a prospect that has the ability to take a good team and make it great. Although it's rare to think a single moment in the offseason decides a Final Four appearance, this could very well be it for Michigan State.
Nobody's quite sure where Jackson will pick in the next few hours, but if he heads to EastLansing, it could very well be time to start clearing out the trophy case for some new additions.
(Note: According to Jeff Borzello, Jackson will announce at 8:30PM ET later tonight.)
