On Tuesday morning, Purdue got some important news on the recruiting trail as JUCO prospect Eden Ewing committed to the program. It was a pickup that should help fill out the team’s depth next year and beyond.
Along with Purdue, Ewing attracted plenty of interest from major programs. He had offers from Fresno State, Iowa State, and LSU among others and plenty more when he was a prospect in 2014 as well. Purdue was the favorite on the Crystal Ball predictions per 247Sports.

Ewing is listed as 6-foot-9 and 215 pounds and plays at Tyler Junior College. He originally comes out of Richmond, Texas. He’s listed as a small forward by most sites, but has the capability to play at multiple positions for Purdue.
While the scouting services are pretty quiet regarding Ewing and his game, he’s a physical player with the ability to do work with his mid-range game. Ewing is also a high energy player that brings that enthusiasm to the defensive end of the floor.
When he arrives at Purdue, he figures to have an easy road to playing time due to likely NBA departures from Vincent Edwards and Caleb Swanigan. He’ll have compete with plenty of other depth options around him, but he should have the skillset and experience to make an early impact.
There’s no telling how Ewing and Purdue will perform down the road, but with a clear avenue to playing time, expect to hear his name early and often during the course of next season.
