11/26 Big Ten Preview: Maryland vs Kansas State

Preview the Big Ten’s matchups for Saturday, including an intriguing game between Maryland and Kansas State.

NCAA Basketball: Maryland at Georgetown Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Outside of a few tough losses for Illinois, things have largely remained rolling for the Big Ten over the last week and a half. Fans will have to hope that some of the momentum can continue on Saturday with a few interesting matchups.

You can preview all the games below. All spreads are based on KenPom.

Big Ten Game of the Day:

-Maryland vs Kansas State

  • Time/TV: 9:30PM ET - American Sports Network
  • KenPom Spread: Kansas State (-2)

Maryland may have sneaked past a tricky Richmond squad on Friday, but things will be significantly more difficult on Saturday against a solid Kansas State team. This should be a good barometer to judge where the Terps are after a 6-0 start to the season.

A win over Kansas State probably wouldn’t be good enough to call a marquee win, but it would certainly be Maryland’s best win so far this season. It could also set Maryland up for quite a run in non-conference play considering all of its remaining non-conference games are at or near home.

The matchup to watch in this game will be what Maryland can do with a tough and physical Kansas State wing group. DJ Johnson and Wesley Iwundu have been great for Kansas State so far this season and it will be interesting to see if players like LG Gill and Justin Jackson can slow them down.

  • Pick Against The Spread: Kansas State

The Rest:

-Iowa vs Memphis

  • Time/TV: 4:00PM ET - N/A
  • KenPom Spread: Iowa (-4)

The Hawkeyes got absolutely annihilated on Friday night by Virginia, but things should get significantly easier on Saturday with a matchup against Memphis. The biggest challenge for Iowa will be stopping some big time rebounders in Dedric Lawson and KJ Lawson. If the Hawkeyes can do just that, Iowa should be in good position to come away with a win.

  • Pick Against The Spread: Iowa

-Mount St. Mary’s at Michigan

  • Time/TV: 7:00PM ET - ESPN3
  • KenPom Spread: Michigan (-21)

Although most Michigan fans will be focused on the football team playing in Columbus, the hoops team will also be playing. After a dreadful outing against South Carolina on Wednesday, Michigan will look to rebound. Keep an eye on Michigan’s shooters, who were absolutely terrible against the Gamecocks.

Pick Against The Spread: Michigan

-Penn State at George Washington

  • Time/TV: 4:00PM ET - N/A
  • KenPom Spread: George Washington (-3)

The Nittany Lions lost both of its matchups against Duke and Cincinnati last weekend, but rebounded with a nice win over Colgate. The team will not look to take that momentum on the road against George Washington on Saturday. The key will be slowing down Tyler Cavanaugh and Yuta Watanabe, who have both been solid for George Washington so far this season.

  • Pick Against The Spread: George Washington

-NJIT at Purdue

  • Time/TV: 3:30PM ET - ESPN3
  • KenPom Spread: Purdue (-22)

Purdue fans might have been disappointed about a tight loss to Villanova and a poor showing against Georgia State last week, but the team rebounded well by knocking off Utah State and Auburn this week in dominant fashion. The Boilermakers will now hope to keep things rolling agains ta severely overmatched NJIT team at home. The key player to watch will be NJIT’s Damon Lynn, who has been off to a tremendous start in the team’s backcourt.

Pick Against The Spread: NJIT
