While trying to predict what will happen in next year’s March madness remains an aimless exercise, new odds have been released by Bovada for which team will win the national championship during the 2016-17 college basketball season. Vegas always has an interesting perspective and this list is no different.

The Big Ten found itself well represented with several of the top contenders coming out of the Big Ten, including two of the top nine teams. Obviously, that speaks to just how exciting this season should be for Big Ten fans.

Here’s a full look at the Big Ten teams listed below.

Big Ten Teams In 11/11 National Title Odds:

  • 14/1 - Wisconsin
  • 25/1 - Michigan State
  • 32/1 - Indiana
  • 40/1 - Purdue
  • 75/1 - Maryland
  • 125/1 - Michigan
  • 150/1 - Iowa
  • 200/1 - Ohio State
  • 250/1 - Illinois
  • 300/1 - Minnesota
  • 350/1 - Nebraska; Northwestern
  • 500/1 - Penn State
  • 1000/1 - Rutgers

There was nothing surprising about seeing Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Indiana so high, but how some of the teams placed is rather intriguing. In particular, seeing where Maryland landed made a bold statement on how Vegas thinks the Terps will perform this season.

While Maryland remains in the top 25 on the USA Today Coaches’ Poll and sixth in BTP’s Week One Power Rankings, there’s no denying that last Friday’s win over American was concerning. These odds did come out before that game, but it looks like Vegas may have been on to something. Fans will get a much better idea on how Maryland will perform this week after its matchup with Georgetown on Tuesday night.

Some of the positioning of the lower ranked teams was also interesting. Michigan landing between Maryland and Iowa was rather intriguing given preseason expectations and Penn State coming in at a dreadful 500/1 had to be disappointing to see for Nittany Lion fans.

It should be a fun season and if these odds are any indication, it looks like a tight and unpredictable race across the Big Ten this season.
