Rutgers Makes Top Six For 2017 Power Forward

The Scarlet Knights are in on the major 2017 prospect.

On Friday afternoon, there was an interesting development on the recruiting trail as 2017 prospect Makhtar Gueye narrowed his list to six schools and Rutgers was fortunate enough to make the cut. The Scarlet Knights are competing against some quality programs and should be in for a battle on the recruiting trail.

Along with Rutgers, Gueye listed five other programs. These schools were DePaul, Louisville, Monmouth, Old Dominion, and UAB. Currently, UAB is the favorite and has received every Crystal Ball prediction on 247Sports.

As mentioned, Gueye is an intriguing prospect. He’s rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports, the No. 279 player overall in the 2017 class and the No. 67 power forward. He’s also listed at 6-foot-9 and 210 pounds.

With Geo Baker already committed in Rutgers’ 2017 recruiting class, the addition of Gueye could be the start of a quality recruiting class for the Scarlet Knights. In fact, both players could be in position to receive major playing time as freshmen if they ultimately signed with the class.

Gueye would be projected to battle for playing time with current Rutgers freshman Issa Thiam and upperclassmen Ibrahima Diallo and Candido Sa among others. The frontcourt wouldn’t be stacked with a commitment from Gueye, but it would certainly have some real depth.

There’s no telling how recruitments of players like Gueye finish, but based on how things sit now, it looks like Rutgers could be in the running for a quality player in the 2017 recruiting class.
