In a recent press release, Ohio State has officially announced its 2015-16 non-conference schedule. The Buckeyes have faced several major non-conference opponents in recent seasons including the North Carolina Tar Heels last season and the Kansas Jayhawks the season before.
Though Ohio State's schedule does not feature a lot of marquee matchups at home, there are plenty of games that should get fans excited and a major matchup with potential team ranked in the Top 5 in the Virginia Cavaliers in Columbus during the 2015 Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Here is the full non-conference schedule.
2015-16 Ohio State Non-Conference Schedule:
- Nov. 15 -- Mount St. Mary's
- Nov. 17 -- Grambling
- Nov. 20 -- UT Arlington
- Nov. 24 -- Louisiana Tech
- Nov. 27 -- vs. Memphis (American Airlines Arena)
- Dec. 1 -- Virginia
- Dec. 5 -- VMI
- Dec. 8 -- Air Force
- Dec. 12 -- at UConn
- Dec. 16 -- Northern Illinois
- Dec. 19 -- vs. Kentucky (Barclays Center)
- Dec. 22 -- Mercer
- Dec. 27 -- South Carolina State
Not only will Ohio State get major matchups with Kentucky, Memphis, UConn, and Virginia, but the team will also get interesting games against Air Force, Mercer, and Northern Illinois teams that may not be great teams, but should be pesky enough to present intriguing challenges for the Buckeyes.
It should be a season of transition for Ohio State in 2015-16 as they lose four starters including All-Big Ten Freshman of the Year D'Angelo Russell, but the team returns a great deal of talent and Thad Matta had failed to make the NCAA Tournament just twice during his time in Columbus.
