Can Nebraska Coach Tim Miles Silence Big Ten Doubters During The 2015-2016 Campaign?

Coach Tim Miles is loved in Lincoln, but he still has many many doubters in the Big Ten that he must prove wrong.

Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports

Coach Tim Miles is certainly one of the most animated coaches in the country, especially in the Big Ten, but Miles and the Cornhuskers still have much to prove.

Miles is 47-49 so far after three seasons in Nebraska and he and the Cornhuskers have still not won a game in the NCAA tournament. Miles has promised Nebraska fans that a win in the NCAA tournament will come during his time at Nebraska, and even the athletic department in Lincoln has bought into Miles coaching. Nebraska recently gave Miles a contract extension through the 2019-20 season. Miles will now receive $2 million annually as the head coach of Nebraska, which certainly means that the University of Nebraska has a lot of faith in coach Miles and the direction the basketball program is heading in.

Will Nebraska win an NCAA tournament game under Miles?

Nebraska struggled in their first season under Miles in 2012-2013, but during the 2013-2014 season the Cornhuskers surprisingly found success and made it to the NCAA tournament. Despite losing to Baylor in the second round of the NCAA tournament, the Cornhuskers seemed to be headed in the right direction after their impressive season in 2013-2014. Unfortunately the team truly struggled from the start during the 2014-2015 season. Miles was returning many top players after their NCAA tournament run, but the team could not seem to get it all together during the season, which is why the team finished a disappointing 13-18.

Miles has the trust of the school, the fans, and his players to get Nebraska ready for the 2015-2016 season, but the Big Ten is stronger then ever, which could be a problem for Nebraska. The Cornhuskers are more than likely not going to compete for a Big Ten championship next season, they might not even finish in the top five of the conference, but the team will have plenty of opportunities to prove themselves throughout the season. Almost any win in the Big Ten can help Nebraska get closer to the NCAA tournament and that is something that Nebraska fans have been craving since their surprising appearance in 2014.

Trust Tim Miles

Coach Miles has found ways to bring in elite talent to Lincoln and he has been able to develop many players in his time so far at Nebraska. Miles is a very good coach on the offensive end and one thing is for certain, he always is looking out for his players on and off the court. Miles is a strong recruiter and he makes Lincoln a very attractive destination for transfers across the country. Terran Pettaway was the best player to play for Miles in his time at Lincoln (originally a transfer from Texas Tech) and now Miles will search for another player to replace Pettaway's incredible ability to score at-will.

Nebraska is in good hands with coach Miles and even though some people might not be convinced, Miles will find a way to prove doubters wrong throughout his coaching career in Lincoln. Once he leads Nebraska to an NCAA tournament win, many doubters will be silenced. This may not happen during the 2015-2016 season, but it will happen sooner then later.
