Caleb Swanigan, a 2015 five star center out of Fort Wayne, had one of the most hyped recruiting trails across Big Ten country and had received offers from half of the conference. While the center had plenty of marquee offers, there was a ton of hope from the Purdue and Michigan State fan bases that they could land the coveted recruit.
Well we now know where Swanigan will be playing as he announced this evening that he is committing to Michigan State, which is a huge pick-up for Tom Izzo and company. While the Spartans will lose a handful of players in the offseason, the addition of Swanigan helps reintroduce Michigan State as probably the biggest contender alongside Maryland next season.
Of course it actually looked like Swanigan was going to avoid the midwest all together as earlier today we had this...
All signs pointing to Caleb Swanigan and Ivan Rabb heading to Cal, sources told ESPN. Right now, that's where they are heading to play.

Based on earlier speculation the news came as bit of a surprise, but Swanigan ultimately chose Sparty over the likes of Cal, Purdue, Duke and Kentucky. Swanigan, a McDonald's All-American and named Mr. Basketball in Indiana, now gives Michigan State a top 10 recruiting class. The Spartans already had verbal commitments from five star power forward Deytona Davis, four star guard Matt McQuaid and three star guard Kyle Ahrens.
While the news was somewhat surprising today, all things considered it isn't hard to see why Swanigan would want to play under Tom Izzo.
Next year I will be going Michigan State university. Once a spartan. Always a Spartan
