B1G Thursday Recap: The Champs meet The Barn

The final Thursday of the regular season ends with a match-up of two rivals and a great game for the probable B1G player of the year.

Unfortunately, there was only one single B1G game tonight and it wasn't a wire-to-wire thriller. Minnesota welcomed Wisconsin to The Barn, but the champs weren't intimidated and were able to walk out with a relatively easy victory.

Game of the Night: Wisconsin @ Minnesota

The Badgers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in this one. With a chance to clinch the outright regular season title on the line, Bo Ryan's team looked focused and prepared despite playing in on of the toughest environments in the conference. To their credit the Golden Gophers fought hard to keep it close, but they were never really able to close the gap enough to be a serious threat for the win. Despite being down 19 at one point in the first Minnesota cut it to 10 at the half, 44-34. In the second half, Richard Pitino's team was able to get within six, but Wisconsin kept them at bay and at the final buzzer it was a 76-63 victory for the visitors.

Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky continued his quest for the Wooden award with a steller 25 point, 6 rebound and 7 assist performance. He ended up shooting 10-15 from the field and added two steals and a block. Kaminsky's teammate Sam Dekker also had a good game as he finished with 20 points and 6 boards, while Nigel Hayes ended up with 12 and 9. The Gopher's were led by freshman Nate Mason, who had 15 points in the losing effort. Carlos Morris added 11 points, but unfortunately he needed 14 shots to get there with only 4 makes. Minnesota will get a chance to pick up a final home victory on Sunday when Penn State comes to visit. For Wisconsin, they travel to Ohio State on the same day.
