Recruiting: Get To Know New 2015 Iowa Commit Ahmad Wagner

The Hawkeyes have picked up a third commit for the 2015 class.

Ahmad Wagner's commitment makes three for Iowa's class of 2015.

Even before taking his official visit to Iowa City, Ahmad Wagner has committed to playing for Fran McCaffery.

The 3-star, 6-7 small forward from Huber Heights, Ohio, is the third prospect to commit for Iowa's class of 2015, behind Andrew Fleming and Brandon Hutton. He's still scheduled to make an official stop to Iowa on Sept. 5, the same weekend Iowa plays Ball State in football.

Wagner had offers from safety schools in the form of Bucknell, Kent State, Miami (OH), and Minnesota, but Iowa was the first team to place a scholarship opportunity in his lap, and Wagner took it. Remember the last time an under-the-radar recruit from Ohio whom McCaffery was quick to offer a scholly? Aaron White was quick to buy into Fran's system, and that's been a good relationship for both parties so far.

Wagner has a lot of upside, with good coaching at Wayne High -- a pedigree basketball school in Ohio -- where Travis Trice Sr. -- the father of Michigan State's own Travis Trice --  is the head coach. And even though his highlight videos come in the form of AAU contests, there's still a lot to like in Wagner's game.

He looks natural under the rim, and is comfortable scoring from point blank. He benefits from some fantastic passes by his guards, but it shows he can finish the play at the hoop and often draw a foul.

Wagner will come into Iowa while forwards Jarrod Uthoff, Aaron White, and Gabe Olaseni depart the program. It'll be good timing for both parties, and if he's able to hone his game more he could see some serious playing time as a freshman since Iowa's forward situation in the future is murky at best at this point.
