Recruiting - Hoosiers offer 2015 Sharpshooter and former SMU Commit

Coach Crean reportedly offered sharpshooting guard Matthew McQuaid today who recently decommitted from SMU.

While most of the recent Hoosier offers have been handed out to the 2016 or 2017 class, Coach Crean made another 2015 offer today to sharpshooting guard Matthew McQuaid from Duncanville, TX. The 6'5" shooting guard is currently a four star player who is ranked #66 in the 247Sports Composite Index. He is listed as the #20 shooting guard in the class and the #8 player in Texas.

McQuaid committed to SMU on May 5th, but ended up with a change of heart and decommitted last weekend. Since his decommitment, he has heard from a number of schools looking for shooters. In 16 games with the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, McQuaid shot 46 of 102 from behind the arc which is why is drawing a lot of recent interest. He currently holds known offers from SMU, Alabama, Baylor, Creighton, Gonzaga, Texas, Oklahoma and a bevy of other schools. He is also receiving interest from North Carolina and Virginia. Here is some video on McQuaid's game:

The offer seems to fit my theory that Coach Crean is looking for at least three players next season even though there is only one spot open on paper. The Hoosiers clearly need a big man, but I believe they also need a point guard and another wing player (which McQuaid clearly fits). There is just too high of a likelihood of one or more of the better wing players heading to the NBA after this season, so the Hoosiers may need to restock there a bit. Indiana will clearly face some stiff competition for McQuaid though given that he has a lot of other high quality schools in his region that have offered a scholarship. It will be interesting to see how hard Coach Crean works this one knowing he has a lot of other important targets out there which may be higher on the Hoosiers at this point.
