Northwestern continues its redesign of its program and facilities today by announcing that Welsh-Ryan will receive a makeover this season. The Wildcats will be getting a new court design next season to hopefully accompany their new coach and style of play.
Welsh-Ryan Arena seats 8,117 and originally opened in 1952. Along with the Louis Brown Athletic Center (Rutgers), it is the only arena that does not hold 10,000 in the Big Ten. It is home to not only Northwestern's men's basketball team, but also women's volleyball and men's wrestling. Welsh-Ryan did host the 1956 Final Four. The arena was last renovated in 1983.
