Halftime update: Spartans lead, Obama still alive

The Spartans lead Delaware at halftime of their opening game in Spokane, and Barack Obama is somewhere smiling.

It's the Adrien Payne show in Spokane.

Payne coupled with great shooting from downtown the Michigan State Spartans hold a 44-33 lead over Delaware at halftime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Adrien Payne leads all scorers with 23 for the Spartans. Gary Harris added 10 points on 4-6 shooting while the Spartans shot a scorching 53.8% in the first twenty minutes.

Tom Izzo and company seemed to take control when they doubled up the Blue Hens 18-36 with a three point jumper from Payne with just over six minutes to go in the half.

The Spartans offense then went cold, scoring only two more field goals the rest of the half. One of those was a Travis Trice layup with 6 seconds left in the half.

Devon Saddler is the only one of the Blue Hens' scoring trio that broke double figures, leading his team with 12 points.

For the Blue Hens to get back in the game, they need to attack the glass. The Spartans are winning the battle on the boards 22-10, led by Branden Dawson with 6.

If Michigan state looks to pull away in the second half, their guards need to take over the game as Delaware has started to double Adrien Payne every time he touches the ball.

The winner of this game will matchup up against Harvard on Saturday in Spokane after their upset of Cincinnati.
