Penn State Leads Hampton at Halftime

The Nittany Lions hold a 33-25 lead at the half in their CBI first round matchup with the Hampton Pirates.

Penn State got out to a hot start against Hampton in the opening round of the CBI. The Nittany Lions started on an 8-0 run and led by as much as ten in the first half.

Brandon Taylor is already in double figures, scoring ten points in the first half, while D.J. Newbill added eight points. Tim Frazier and Jordan Dickerson each scored four points as well. The Nittany Lions were 9-24 from the floor and 10-13 from the free throw line in the first half.

Hampton was dominated by PSU on the boards in the first half, getting out rebounded 25 to 8. Still, the Pirates hung tough and kept it to an eight point game going into break. Sophomore guard Brian Darden scored 15 of Hampton's 25 points in the first 20 minutes.

Penn State seems to have a big advantage in this one, particularly down low. If the Nittany Lions keep up their work on the boards, they should move on to play Siena in the second round of the CBI.
