The Wildcats hosted an open scrimmage today and it was a nice way to get a look at the recent redesign of their court at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

It's a nice and clean court design, though I'm not gonna lie...it's disappointing. Northwestern's old court design with the Wildcat logo and heavy use of purple had a nice design and actually stood out compared to what is essentially a generic N and painfully plain court design. In case you forgot, here was the old court design:

Of course part of me might just be bitter here. I've always been a fan of outlandish court designs, with the courts for schools like Oregon, Long Beach State, Florida International and Central Florida all being some of my favorites. When it comes to basic designs over something more flashy, I usually don't bite. Hell, I'm still bitter over Purdue's court featuring a giant P over the old train logo, but it is what it is. That being said, anyone remember this?
At one point in time Northwestern could have had an almost entirely purple court. Seriously, the bizarro Boise State of Big Ten basketball. And for some reason they chose not to because apparently the university is full of people who don't like have to fun.
