The beginning of football season is also when most recruits start taking their official visits and the Boilermakers took full advantage of this during the weekend. Purdue brought out numerous recruits to campus for the Notre Dame game and seemed to do a solid job impressing them as Vince Edwards committed on the spot and Ronnie Harrell left campus impressed with his visit. Also around the Big Ten, two programs will have to look elsewhere for a point guard while Tom Izzo adds another championship to his resume.
Vince Edwards commits to Purdue
Purdue had a big recruiting weekend this past weekend as the team had numerous basketball (and football) targets on campus for the football game versus Notre Dame. The Boilermakers got the day off to a good start with the commitment of Vince Edwards earlier in the afternoon. Edwards is a 6'7 forward out of Ohio and has been the guy Painter has been after for quite awhile now. Edwards is a big get for the Boilermakers and is currently ranked in Rivals' Top 150 at #122. Edwards also held an offer from Michigan, who some saw as the front runner at one point. Edwards will join fellow Ohio commit Dakota Mathias as Purdue's first two commits for 2014.
Also, three star forward Ronnie Harrell was in town this past weekend and seemed to enjoy himself in West Lafayette.
Weekend visitor Ronnie Harrell: 'I have two more visits but Purdue set the bar really high.' Creighton and K-State visits remaining.

Tyler Ulis heading to Kentucky
Michigan State at one point was the front runner to land four star point guard Tyler Ulis but that changed in a hurry once Kentucky got involved. Now one of 2014's top recruits is off the board and heading to Kentucky. Ulis was also highly interested in Michigan State and Iowa, but couldn't turn down Coach Calipari. Of course Calipari's ability to produce NBA talent also played a hand, though Ulis is a bit undersized and could be one of the rare Kentucky players that spends more than a year with the program.
Black Heart Gold Pants has touched on what the decision means for the Iowa Hawkeyes, while the Only Colors takes a look at where Michigan State stands now in their search for a 2014 point guard.
JaQuan Lyle decommits from Louisville
JaQuan Lyle, rated 5 stars per Rivals, was one of 2014's top recruits and committed to Louisville. However, Lyle has decided to decommit from the Cardinals and will reopen his recruiting. Lyle, one of the nations top shooting guards, has said he will still consider Louisville if they continue to recruit him. Back in June when Lyle had made his original decision his finalists included Louisville, Florida, Indiana and Tennessee. While it's unknown if he plans to just look at those three schools or open it back up a bit, the Indiana native could be a prime target for the Hoosiers. As for the Big Ten, Lyle holds offers from Indiana, Purdue, Ohio State and Illinois.
Tom Izzo...WWE Champion?
The WWE were in Michigan this weekend for their pay-per-view event Night of Champions and recently honored Tom Izzo at an event. While not a personal favorite of mine when it comes to wrestlers, the Big Show presented Tom Izzo with the WWE championship title.
