The offseason has been relatively quiet up until now but it's starting to heat up a bit, especially with the ripple effects caused by Emmanuel Mudiay's surprising verbal commitment to SMU and the impact it'll have on Tyler Ullis's recruitment. Also, Lindy's recently added some fuel to the flame when they posted their preseason top 10, which featured Michigan State surprisingly at the top position. Sure to create even more debate among Big Ten fans will be UM Hoops and Inside the Hall's collaboration ranking the top 25 Big Ten players, with the lists initial post heavy on guys looking to break out in 2013-14. Anyways, now for the Powerlinks.
Michigan State tops Lindy's preseason poll
Lindy's has recently released the covers for their upcoming basketball previews and these covers include their preseason top ten. Their top ten features three Big Ten programs, with Michigan State earning Lindy's number one spot. Also on the list include Ohio State at sixth and Michigan at tenth. The list also includes Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, Louisville, Florida and Oklahoma State. The surprise here is that Lindy's ranked Michigan State ahead of Kentucky. While Michigan State seems to have the best team in the conference, Kentucky's 2013 squad is looking more like the Wildcats program two years ago instead of last years disappointment. Michigan State may have a loaded roster but it still comes up a bit short versus a roster with possibly six or seven future first rounders.
Big Ten basketball sites UM Hoops and Inside the Hall are coming together to post a feature detailing the top 25 players in the conference. So far the first five players on the list include Nebraska freshman Tai Webster, Purdue senior Terone Johnson, Ohio State junior Shannon Scott, Michigan freshman Zak Irvin and Ohio State senior Lenzelle Smith.
Badgers add another win in Canada
The Badgers continued to roll after suffering a loss in their first game in Canada. The Badgers coasted on their way to a 84-61 victory over Ryerson University. Sam Dekker once again led the Badgers in scoring, this time with 18 points, as Wisconsin opened up an early lead and kept the game out of reach for its entirety. Wisconsin is now 3-1 through four games on their exhibition tour.
