The Spartans are the clear frontrunner for the Big Ten title and will be the team everyone is aiming for. Not only that, but the Spartans are also a viable Final Four possibility and could contend for a potential National Title. The team is ran by one of the nation's best coaches in Tom Izzo, features a dominating big in Adreian Payne and also has the emerging Gary Harris at the wing. Michigan State's team is fully capable of playing lockdown defense and offensively can switch back and forth between a physical, inside attack and a swarming perimeter rush.
Simply put, Michigan State will be good. Very good. Southland member McNeese State? Not so much.
While the start of the college basketball season is great, it does provide numerous games like this, with a mid-major program with an almost non-existent chance of winning heading to a national powerhouse. And in typical fashion, this game very well should be out of hand for the Cowboys before the second media timeout (if not the first). Nonetheless, it'll give Big Ten and Michigan State fans the first major glimpse at the team and to see how much they've progressed throughout the offseason. Izzo always has his teams ready to go and won't back down simply because they're playing a weaker opponent. For a school that has watched their football program play extremely sluggish on offense, the Spartans basketball program should provide a refreshing change of pace.
