Basketball season is finally upon us, and here is a quick rundown of the weekend Big Ten action in case you missed it.
Friday
Indiana 96, Stony Brook 66: The Seawolves hung tough for a little while, but a cheap shot against Cody Zeller seemed to spark the Hoosiers who went on a run and pulled away. Zeller had 16 points and 10 rebounds in his debut, and Victor Oladipo also scored 16.
North Carolina 67, Michigan State 55: The views and vistas from the aircraft carrier were beautiful, but MSU's 2-20 three-point shooting was anything but.
Michigan 59, Ferris State 33: The Wolverines had no trouble taking care of the D-II Bulldogs in their first regular season game.
Purdue 96, Northern Illinois 34: The Boilermakers rededicated Mackey Arena with their largest margin of victory since they started playing basketball at Purdue.
Iowa 96, Chicago State 53: The Hawkeyes also managed to score over 90 points as Freshman Aaron White scored 19.
Minnesota 70, Bucknell 58: The Gophers needed a late run to put the Bison away. Trevor Mbakwe looks to have improved his free-throw shooting, which was one of his few weaknesses last year.
Nebraska 65, South Dakota 48: The Huskers won their first regular season game as a member of the conference without much trouble.
Illinois 67, Loyola Chicago 49: Loyola hung tough with the Illini until midway through the second half, when Bruce Weber's team took over.
Ohio State 73, Wright State 42: The #3 Buckeyes dominated the Raiders as was expected.
Saturday
Wisconsin 85, Kennesaw State 31: The Badgers held KSU to only 8 points in the first half, and only 23 in the second.
Penn State 70, Hartford 55: The start of the Tom Chambers Era at PSU was overshadowed this weekend, but the Lions picked up a win in front of a very sparse crowd considering admission to the game was free.
Sunday
Indiana 78, Chattanooga 53: Oladipo had another high-scoring game with 21, and Jordan Hulls poured in 18 to lead the Hoosiers in another impressive win. IU dominated the turnover battle, and Zeller ended up with a career-high 6 steals.
Northwestern 60, Texas Pan-American 36: UT-PA hung with Northwestern until late in the first half, when the Cats went on a run. John Shurna scored 17 points and big Luka Mirkovic scored 12.
