Analysis after the jump
Overall, this was by far the toughest week to figure out because 17 of the 25 ranked teams
fell last week. Everyone in my Top 25 moved except Ohio State.
Big Ten Ranked Teams:
#1 Ohio State (22-0) : Ohio State remains the only undefeated team in the nation. They barely squeaked by Northwestern, but beat Purdue handily, but no one could have beat them that night. They struggled against a Northwestern team without their best player. If other Big Ten teams can cook up the recipe Northwestern used, Ohio State could go down sooner, rather than later. This week they face Michigan at home and Minnesota on the road. They will look to bounce back from a shaky one at home against their arch rival.
#9 Purdue (18-4) : Yes, Purdue lost badly to Ohio State, but no one could have beaten Ohio State that night, they were too hot. With the chunk of teams that fell this week, their was no where for Purdue to go but up. Right now, number nine is where I see them right now. They have huge game at Wisconsin this week. It might be their last chance for a top 25 road win, given how Illinois and Michigan State are performing right now.
#16 Wisconsin (15-5) : Wisconsin took a tumble at Penn State this week. This is also where MSU and Illinois fell and then started to lose it. Wisconsin can't afford to lose it this week, they have Purdue and Michigan State at home this week. In a place where almost no one can win, can the Badgers top the Boilers? It is sure to be a game that could decide if their is any team left to challenge Ohio State.
#21 Minnesota (16-5) : Minnesota won at NW before falling at Purdue. They lost Nolen, a player that will be tough to replace. To me, they need Nolen to compete fully in the Big Ten. They will still make the NCAA Tournament but, I feel they will be a one and done type team. This week they travel to Indiana and then take on Ohio State at home, in what could be a key game in the conference.
#25 Illinois (14-7) : Illinois needs help. They are going to end up like Michigan State here pretty fast if they don't kick it back into gear. They have the talent, use it. They lost at Indiana last week. Yeah, Indiana. They face Penn State at home and NW on the road this week, Penn State could be a tricky game, as could be NW at this point for the Illini they already lost to PSU earlier this year.
If you have any questions about why I put the non-Big Ten teams where I put them in the BT Powerhouse Top 25, feel free to leave your questions in the comments.
