With an 11 point lead in the first half Iowa had to feel good about their chances of picking up their second straight Big Ten victory. What the Hawkeye's forgot though was it takes a full 40 minute effort to win a basketball. Using a 10-0 run in the first half, Penn State ended the first half up 1 despite playing sloppy basketball for most of the half.
For Iowa it was again a story of poor defense and not hitting shots when they were most needed. Matt Gatens and Jarryd Colecombined for 21 points but it wasn't enough to keep up with a hot handed Nittany Lion's squad that shot over 50% from the field for the 3rd straight game. The first time the Lions have done that since 1999.
Talor Battle scored 23 points to give him his 40th game with 20 or more points, Jeff Brooks also scored a career high 22 points hitting 4 of 6 from behind the arc to continue his streak of hot shooting in Big Ten play. Andrew Jones also chipped in with 10 rebounds and 9 points and was a critical part of the Lion's dominance.
For Iowa, they fall to 1-7 in the Big Ten and will head to Michigan to play a scrappy Wolverine team that has also struggled to pick up wins in the Big Ten.
Penn State moves to 4-4 in conference and will host #15 Wisconsin this Saturday for a chance to move over .500 in the Big Ten and add another key win to their tournament resume.
