Purdue Offers 2016 Power Forward Nick Rakocevic

Purdue has offered 6'9" 2016 power forward Nick Rakocevic, from Westchester, IL. Rakocevic is not yet rated on the 247Sports Composite Index.  Nick has offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Creighton, Miami, and Northern Illinois to date. He has also has interest from schools such as Duke & Florida. Rakocevic is the 8th player offered by Matt Painter in 2016. The Boilermakers currently have 2 openings for that class assuming no one on the current team leaves early for any reason and also assuming they fill up the 2015 roster with freshman.

Here was Rakocevic's reaction to receiving the offer on twitter:

Purdue_medium

It is still too early in this recruitment to figure out who has the upper hand, but there is certainly a lot of tough competition here for this highly sought power forward.  The crystal ball currently has him at 75% Illinois and 25% Duke (who has not even offered yet) based on 8 predictions. If Duke does offer, I have to believe that is who will be favored to land Rakocevic's services, but crazier things have happened so Boiler fans shouldn't give up hope just yet.

Indiana Offers Another 2016 SG Eli Wright

Indiana has offered 6'4" 2016 shooting guard Eli Wright, from Owensboro, Kentucky. Wright is not yet rated on the 247Sports Composite Index.  Wright has offers from Mississippi State, Northern Kentucky, Purdue, and Western Kentucky to date. He has also has interest from schools such as Alabama, Louisville, and Xavier. Wright is the 18th player already offered by Tom Crean in 2016. The Hoosiers currently have 4 openings for that class assuming no one on the current team leaves early for any reason.

Here is a highlight video of Wright this past season at Apollo High School:

It is still too early in this recruitment to figure out who has the upper hand, but Indiana does seem to be the premier school on the offer list as of today which seems to be the case with a lot of 2016 guys to date. The crystal ball currently has him at 67% Indiana and 33% Purdue (only three predictions so far) which makes sense given the offer list above.

Leroy Butts Decommits from Rutgers

Maybe Eddie Jordan should've seen the writing on the wall. A rising senior, Butts has already played for two different high schools and has selected a third for his senior season.

A big 2015 power forward, Butts selected Rutgers over Depaul, Miami, and Cincinnati back in November. He says that he is still considering Rutgers, and he may very well be, but decommitments rarely land back in the fold with the school they've chosen to decommit from. Hope isn't dead - James Blackmon Jr. did commit to Indiana again following his decommitment, but if I were a betting man I'd think Butts will end up playing elsewhere on the east coast.

Losing Butts is a big loss for Eddie Jordan, but not an insurmountable one. With scholarships to spare, Jordan had been working the recruiting trail anyway and he still has plenty of time until signing day. While I'm sure Eddie would've loved to have Leroy to coach and mold, Butts wasn't going to be the difference maker for Rutgers early on in his career.

Who will be a Scarlet Knight in 2015?

Purdue Offers 2016 Point Guard Quentin Goodin

Purdue has offered 2016 point guard Quentin Goodin.  Goodin is rated as a 4* according to 247Sports.  Goodin has received attention from programs including Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, and Michigan.  Clearly, getting attention from three of the most well known programs in the nation sends a strong message.  This is Purdue's sixth offer for the class of 2016 according to 247Sports.

This is what Goodin had to say to GoVols247 about narrowing down his list:

"You don't want to put a timetable on it, but here pretty soon we'll probably put out a list of the schools that we're definitely interested in. It'll probably be a list of about eight to 10."

Kentucky and Louisville are considered to be the major contenders in Goodin's recruitment at this point, but the process is definitely far from over.

Indiana Offers 2016 Shooting Guard Rawle Alkins

Indiana has offered 6'4" 2016 shooting guard Rawle Alkins. Alkins is rated as a four star player according to the 247Sports Composite Index where he checks in as #36 overall which is the #6 overall shooting guard and #1 overall player in the state of New York. Alkins has offers from Cincinnati, Minnesota, Seton Hall, Villanova and others. He has also had rising interest from schools such as Arizona, UConn, Florida, and Kentucky. Alkins is the 16th player already offered by Tom Crean in 2016. The Hoosiers currently have 4 openings for that class assuming no one on the current team leaves early for any reason.

Alkins did seem pretty excited upon receiving the offer today:

Rawle_alkins_medium

It is still way too earlier in this recruitment to figure out who has the upper hand, but Indiana does seem to be the premier school on the offer list as of today. Before today, the crystal ball predictions had him going to Villanova at 100% - but we are way too early in the process to take that with any seriousness.

Purdue 2015 Target Close to Making Decision?

2015 Point Guard Hyron Edwards would like to get his decision over with by the end of July. He has been having a great AAU season this summer and there have been several schools getting newly involved with him. He has been viewed as a lock for the Boilermakers to this point and is still viewed as the unanimous 100% choice by the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

Recently, both UNLV and California have gotten involved and Edwards would like to visit both schools before making a decision. This isn't great news for Purdue as they would just like to get a commitment from him before he heats up even more on the AAU trail and gains offers from other programs. There is also some good news on this recruitment for Boiler fans though - archrival Indiana appears to have taken themselves out of the picture and moved on to other targets.

Hyron_edwards_medium

Even with the potential upcoming visits to UNLV and California - I don't see Edwards going anywhere but Purdue and that will be a good pickup for the Boilers to go along with recent SG commit Ryan Cline.

Ohio State Offers 2016 Point Guard Jermaine Haley

Ohio State offered 2016 point guard Jermaine Haley.  Haley is unrated by 247Sports, but has received attention from schools including Gonzaga, Illinois, and Oregon.  Haley is the eighth player in the 2016 class to receive an offer from Ohio State according to 247Sports.

This is a quote that 247Sports had about Haley:

"The best thing I've heard so far about Jermaine from other college coaches is that he fits with every style of play, and that he can be recruited alongside anyone out there," said Bains. "Schools are saying they don't care who they sign because Jermaine fits with anyone. That's a very good sign."

Haley is considered to be open in his recruitment at this point.

Ohio State Offers 2016 Center Jon Teske

Ohio State has offered 2016 center Jon Teske.  Teske is unrated according to 247Sports, but has received attention from several Big Ten programs including Indiana, Michigan, and Purdue.  Teske is the seventh player to receive an offer from Ohio State in the 2016 class according to 247Sports.

This is what 247Sports had to say about Teske:

"The 6-11, 215-pound Teske had built a reputation as a strong shot blocker. He averaged 12 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots per game as a sophomore this past year as Medina went 19-7 and reached a Division I district championship game. Ohio State and Dayton have offered. He plays for Team Work on the AAU circuit, but he is sidelined now with an injured finger."

Teske is believed to be open in his recruitment at this point.

Michigan Offers 2016 Power Forward TJ Leaf

Michigan has offered 2016 power forward TJ Leaf.  Leaf is rated as a 5* according to 247Sports.  Leaf has received attention from numerous programs including Arizona, Indiana, and UCLA.  Many of the nation's major programs are recruiting Leaf.  Leaf is the seventh player to receive an offer from Michigan today.

This is what I wrote about Leaf for Wolverine247:

"Leaf is the dynamic player you would expect out of a 5* recruit. He can shoot, adjust at the hoop, pass, and run the floor. What really sets him apart is his incredible length and ability to create space. Not only can he create space with his speed and body, but he also is great at positioning the ball away from defenders, which prevents defenders from interfering with shots and passes. This also makes it quite easy for him to adjust when he gets inside and his ease of scoring over smaller defenders is incredibly impressive. That high release point also adds to a great natural stroke, which makes him a threat all over the floor. Other things that jump off the tape are his great court awareness and athleticism. Not only can get down the court quickly, but he can also find teammates before defenses have time to react. On defense, he is incredibly effective at disrupting opponents' shots and displays the skills of a natural shot blocker. This may drop off a tad against bigger opponents, but it is pretty hard not to see him continuing this at the next level."

Indiana is currently favored by the Crystal Ball for Leaf's commitment.

Michigan has offered 2016 center Jon Teske.  Teske is unrated according to 247Sports, but has received attention from several Big Ten programs including Indiana, Ohio State, and Purdue.  Teske is the fifth player to receive an offer from Michigan today.

Michigan Offers 2016 Forward Seth Towns

Michigan has offered 2016 forward Seth Towns.  Towns is unrated according to 247Sports, but is considered to be a major prospect.  Towns has been getting attention from programs including Dayton, Ohio, and Ohio State.  Towns is the fourth Michigan player to receive an offer today.

This is what Towns said about Michigan to Wolverine247:

"I really appreciate how they make sure that their players succeed after basketball. With all of the sources and opportunities that they have at their school, it would be a challenge not to be successful. Not only do they have some of the top areas of study, but the basketball team is actually taught networking and how to use their sources after college being a former University of Michigan basketball player."

Michigan is considered to be the leader for Towns right now.

Michigan Offers 2016 Point Guard Cassius Winston

Michigan offers another prospect today as they give out an offer to 2016 point guard Cassius Winston.  Winston is rated as a 4* according to 247Sports.  Winston is receiving attention from several major programs including Iowa State and Michigan State.  Winston is the second point guard to receive an offer from Michigan today.

This is what Wolverine247 had to say about Winston:

"The 6'0" guard looks like one of the top 2016 prospects in the country with 5 star potential. Michigan has been on him for a while and already got him on campus for the Michigan State basketball game this past season. Getting him comfortable with the campus early in the process will be key as Michigan will have to fight off the country's elite programs to keep Winston in-state."

Michigan State is believed to be Winston's leader as of now.

Michigan Offers 2016 Shooting Guard Tyus Battle

Michigan continues its moves on "Offer Day" with an offer out to 2016 shooting guard Tyus Battle.  Battle is rated as a 5* according to 247Sports and is getting major attention nationally.  Some of the programs that are pursuing Battle the hardest are Kentucky and Syracuse, which tells a lot.

Battle is known for his diverse play.  This is what he told 247Sports about playing multiple positions:

"I just try to even in out. Sometimes, I just play all different positions on the floor and I try to use it to my advantage by taking the mentality of both. I feel like sometimes you've just got to play."

At this point, Syracuse is believed to be Battle's leader.

Michigan Offers 2016 Point Guard Derryck Thornton

Big news out of Ann Arbor today as Michigan has offered 2016 point guard Derryck Thornton.  Thornton is rated as a 5* according to 247Sports and is being targeted by many of the national basketball powers including Arizona and UConn.  Michigan uses a delayed offer cycle, so this is the program's first reported offer of the 2016 cycle.  Thornton certainly has gotten the attention of John Beilein and his staff.

This is what I wrote about Thornton for Wolverine247:

"The best thing that Thornton can do is distribute to his teammates. Maybe this is considered an assumed skill in point guards, but Thornton can get the ball in places that you would not expect and creates these situations not only through his understanding of the game, but also with his elusive ball handling. He can push the ball in transition and also work in the half court set. He also is a solid scorer that can create space and get good looks."

Michigan is believed to be Thornton's leader at this point and UMHoops recently reported that he may be interested in making an early commitment.

Bryn Forbes Transfers to Michigan State

Tom Izzo must've been cribbing notes from Fred Hoiburg lately, because he has managed to bring in two big-time transfers to compete for playing time. Usually, a team that just brought in a big-time scoring guard with the skills to put up points on the perimeter isn't going to bring in another similar player at the same position in the same week. It's even more rare when both of those players are transfers, a decision players often reach due to concerns about playing time. This situation, however is a bit different. Forbes is a Lansing native. He also played high school basketball with rising Michigan State junior Denzel Valentine. And Bryn is transferring to live nearer to his ailing sister. The Spartans' location was no doubt a major factor in the decision Bryn reached to bring his talents to East Lansing. Well, back to East Lansing.

And Forbes does have considerable talent. As a sophomore for Cleveland State, he averaged 15.6ppg while shooting .424 percent behind the arc. With Harris in tow as well, Michigan State will have plenty of firepower to help spread the floor. Because Forbes is transferring to be nearer to a sick relative, he maybe eligible for a waiver to play for the Spartans during the 2014-15 season, which would be a big boost for Michigan State. Either way, Forbes will provide a lot of offensive firepower for the Spartans once he makes it to the floor.

Ahrens is a 3* recruit on the 247Composite and the #5 ranked player in the state of Ohio.  Mike Wilson from Scout broke the commitment earlier today.  His piece is linked here.  Here are some quotes from Kyle about commiting to the Spartans:

"I love just how they are like a family and how Coach Izzo just brings everyone together and how everyone is together and has fun together.

Ohio State Offers 2015 Power Forward Esa Ahmad

Big news over the last few days as big time 2015 recruit Esa Ahmad not only visited Columbus, but was offered by the scarlet and gray.  Ahmad is rated as a 4* by the 247Composite and as the #3 player in the state of Ohio.  He has also received attention from other Big Ten programs including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Purdue, and Wisconsin.  Needless to say, this is a major prospect that could make a big impact in college.

247Sport's Bucknuts had an interview with Ahmad (pay-walled) and here is just one quote from Ahmad on what he thought about the Ohio State offer:
